Abu Trica Sues Ghana Government and FBI Over Alleged Human Rights Violations

Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has filed a lawsuit at the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra against the Government of Ghana and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), alleging unlawful arrest, detention, and violations of his fundamental human rights.

The 27-year-old, who is facing cyber fraud-related investigations, is seeking GH₵10 million in damages, claiming he was arrested on December 11, 2025, handcuffed, starved, and interrogated by foreign agents without access to legal representation.

The suit names the Minister for the Interior, the Attorney-General, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the FBI as respondents.

According to court documents, Abu Trica alleges that law enforcement officers conducted unauthorised searches at his residence in Swedru, during which luxury vehicles, electronic devices, and personal items were seized. He further claims that some of the confiscated properties belonged to friends and associates.

He is asking the court to declare any evidence obtained during what he describes as coercive interrogations inadmissible, and to restrain foreign law enforcement agencies from exercising investigative powers over him within Ghana without due process.

The case is scheduled for hearings in February 2026 and is expected to raise significant legal questions regarding the scope of foreign law enforcement operations and the protection of citizens’ rights under Ghanaian law.
