Eight Armed Illegal Miners Busted in Offin Forest Reserve After Journalist’s Exposé

The fight against illegal mining in Ghana has taken another dramatic turn as the anti-galamsey taskforce of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) arrested eight heavily armed illegal miners in the Western Region.

The group, reportedly led by a man identified as Ishmael, had brazenly re-entered the Anwia Futu section of the Offin Shelterbelt Forest Reserve with excavators, resuming destructive operations despite recent reclamation efforts.

Their activities were brought to light after an exposé by investigative journalist Erastus Asare Donkor, prompting swift action from the taskforce.

Authorities say the arrest sends a strong warning to others who may attempt to return to reclaimed sites, stressing that the fight against illegal mining remains relentless.
