NIB Arrests Six Scholarship Secretariat Officials Amid Ongoing Audit

The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has arrested six officials of the Scholarship Secretariat as part of an ongoing audit into the institution’s financial and administrative operations.
According to the Secretariat, the arrests occurred a few weeks ago. The individuals were subsequently granted bail but remain under investigation while the audit progresses.
Details of the alleged offences and findings from the audit have not yet been made public. However, the development has sparked public interest and scrutiny over the Secretariat’s internal management practices.
This incident follows growing concerns about alleged irregularities under the previous leadership of the institution. The current Registrar, Alexander Asafo-Agyei, who assumed office in February 2025, has been vocal about the need for transparency and accountability.
In an interview on June 10, 2025, Mr. Asafo-Agyei criticised past administrative practices at the Secretariat, citing a lack of oversight and integrity. He reiterated his commitment to restoring trust in the institution and ensuring strict adherence to proper governance standards.
