Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Taxi Robbery Syndicate Targeting Women

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects linked to a syndicate accused of using taxi cabs to steal mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting victims.

According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects operate mainly in the early hours of the day, posing as commercial taxi drivers searching for passengers. The group allegedly uses a coordinated strategy to carry out their crimes.

Police explained that two of the suspects sit in the front seats of the vehicle, while the third suspect positions himself at the back. Once a victim — mostly women — boards the taxi, the suspects deliberately lock the doors, preventing the victim from alighting.

As the victim struggles to open the door, the suspect seated at the back reportedly pretends to offer assistance but instead steals the victim’s mobile phone or wallet.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, as efforts continue to track down and arrest individuals involved in receiving and trading the stolen items.

The Police have advised the public, especially commuters, to remain vigilant when using taxis, particularly during early morning hours, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
