The trial of Gifty Oware-Aboagye, former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 22, 2026, at the High Court after the court dismissed a last-minute attempt by her legal team to delay proceedings.
According to court sources, the presiding judge rejected a motion filed by the defence seeking to “slow down” the trial on procedural grounds, ruling that the application lacked merit.
The court subsequently ordered that the case proceed as scheduled.
Gifty Oware-Aboagye is facing charges linked to her tenure at the NSS, as part of a wider state-led investigation into alleged misconduct and mismanagement within the institution.
While the full details of the charges have not been officially disclosed, sources familiar with the case indicate that they relate to financial impropriety and administrative irregularities.
The prosecution forms part of broader efforts by state authorities to strengthen accountability in public service, particularly within agencies responsible for managing national youth programmes.
During the hearing, Oware’s legal team argued that the case was being rushed and requested additional time to adequately prepare their defence.
However, the court disagreed, maintaining that it was ready to proceed with the trial on the stipulated date.
The case is expected to draw significant public and media attention, given Gifty Oware-Aboagye’s profile in political and youth leadership circles and the growing national focus on transparency and accountability in public institutions.
