Former NSS Deputy Boss Gifty Oware-Mensah Charged with Stealing and Causing Financial Loss to the State

The former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah, has been officially charged with stealing and willfully causing financial loss to the State.

According to court documents filed at the Accra High Court, Oware-Mensah allegedly misappropriated GH¢31.5 million belonging to the National Service Authority (NSA) between February 2022 and March 2024.

The charges stem from investigations into suspected financial irregularities within the National Service Authority, where funds meant for operations were reportedly diverted for personal gain.

If found guilty, the former NSS executive could face serious legal consequences, including restitution of funds and possible imprisonment under Ghana’s Criminal and Other Offences Act.

The case has since attracted national attention, sparking public discussions on accountability and transparency within state institutions. Proceedings are expected to continue in the coming weeks as the Attorney-General’s Department pursues the case.
